Service Description

This 2-hour training explores the most influential Serious Case Reviews, including Victoria Climbié, Baby P, Daniel Pelka, Holly and Jessica, and the Rochdale case where multiple girls were victims of CSE. These events reshaped safeguarding law, statutory guidance, and everyday practice across childcare settings. This training is central to our work and directly inspired the name Whys2Wise. Drawing on years of frontline practice and extensive experience teaching Level 4 and Level 5 staff and managers, we repeatedly observed a key pattern: practitioners knew what to do, but not why. Serious Case Reviews expose this gap, showing how missed understanding, poor professional curiosity, and disconnected decision-making can have devastating consequences. The session supports staff to examine how serious failures occurred, not to assign blame, but to build professional insight, curiosity, and accountability. Participants explore recurring themes such as missed opportunities, ineffective communication, failure to challenge, and the absence of the child’s voice, and how these themes continue to influence safeguarding expectations today. Clear links are drawn between Serious Case Reviews, legislation, statutory guidance, and regulatory frameworks. Staff develop a deeper understanding of why safeguarding processes exist and how everyday actions such as recording, information sharing, escalation, and multi-agency working directly protect children. Reflective and preventative practice is emphasised. Staff are guided to recognise early warning signs, maintain vigilance in familiar or high-pressure environments, and prevent drift. Learning is grounded in real examples from both frontline practice and qualification delivery, strengthening confidence and application. Delivered remotely, this interactive session accommodates up to ten learners. Certificates are issued on successful completion, contributing to staff CPD and professional development. For managers, this training strengthens safeguarding culture, supports regulatory expectations, and improves decision-making quality and consistency. When staff understand not just what to do, but why it matters, practice becomes wiser, safer, and more accountable, principles at the heart of Whys2Wise.
