Residential Support Worker Induction
New Starter Masterclass. Building the right mindset, skills, and understanding from day one.
Service Description
This intensive two hour session which directly supports Regulation 18 and Regulation 11. Staff competence and child centred care. is designed for new starters, newly appointed staff, or teams who are early in their journey within residential childcare. It recognises a reality many managers face: there is a vast amount to understand, the stakes are high, and mistakes can have serious consequences for children, staff, and organisations. Residential childcare is not a role that can be learned by observation alone. Short shadowing periods and informal learning often leave gaps in understanding, allow poor habits to be copied, and place staff in situations they are not yet equipped to handle. This session provides a structured starting point that supports staff to develop the right foundations from the outset. Delivered by experienced practitioners and qualified educators, the training focuses on the core mindsets, approaches, and professional judgement required in the role. Staff are supported to understand what sits behind policies, procedures, and expectations, and how their everyday decisions directly affect children’s safety, wellbeing, and outcomes. The session explores responsibility, boundaries, safeguarding awareness, professional curiosity, and reflective practice. It helps staff understand how situations can escalate when handled poorly, including the potential for safeguarding concerns, complaints, investigations, or legal involvement, and how good practice prevents this. Sessions are delivered remotely and accommodate up to 10 attendees for one set price, making them suitable for onboarding new staff or supporting developing teams. At the end of the session, all attendees complete a structured set of scenario based questions designed to evidence understanding and learning. These are assessed by qualified assessors. Where responses demonstrate sufficient understanding, a CPD certificate is issued. Where learning needs to be embedded further, a free one to one follow up session is provided before certification is completed. This ensures certificates genuinely reflect competence and learning, providing robust evidence of staff development that managers and inspectors can have confidence in.
