Write It Like You Mean It
Daily logs that reflect real practice and protect everyone involved
Service Description
This session focuses on one of the most underestimated areas of residential care: everyday recording. Staff often provide thoughtful, child-centred care on shift, but struggle to evidence it clearly in daily logs. Poor recording can undermine good practice, create risk for staff, and weaken a home’s position during inspections or reviews. The session breaks down what strong daily records actually look like in residential childcare. Staff learn how to write clearly, professionally, and confidently, linking what happened on shift to care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies without overwriting or defensive language. Using real-life examples, the session explores common recording mistakes, how language can unintentionally create risk, and how to evidence decision-making, boundaries, and emotional support in a way that stands up to management, external scrutiny, and Ofsted. This is a practical, hands-on session that helps staff understand that recording is not an extra task, but an essential part of care itself. It supports consistency across teams, strengthens accountability, and gives staff confidence that their written work accurately reflects the quality of care they provide.
