Service Description

Working in residential childcare asks a lot of people. Alongside supporting children with complex needs, practitioners and managers are balancing relationships, risk, routines, recording, competing priorities, difficult decisions and the emotional demands of the role. Executive Function & Role Coaching provides personalised 1:1 support for the human being managing all of that. Sessions are shaped around the individual and what they need right now. For managers, this might mean creating structure around an overwhelming workload, prioritising competing demands, managing a team, preparing for difficult conversations, thinking through challenging situations or simply having protected space to organise thoughts and regain clarity. For practitioners, support might focus on organisation, planning, confidence, managing responsibilities, maintaining focus, following through on tasks or developing practical strategies for the demands of everyday residential care. Coaching can also strengthen direct work with children. Better planning, structure and flexible thinking can help practitioners manage routines, organise purposeful activities, respond to changing situations and create greater consistency for the children they support. At other times, the need is less about a specific workplace task and more about supporting the person behind the role. Residential childcare can be demanding. Having confidential space to think, reflect, organise and work through pressure can help people function more effectively both professionally and personally. Executive function principles can be used throughout, including planning, prioritisation, working memory, organisation, flexible thinking, focus, emotional regulation, task initiation and follow-through. But this is not a rigid programme. Support is built around the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit the coaching. Organisations can commission sessions for managers or staff as targeted professional support, while individuals can also access coaching directly. The principle is simple: when we invest in the people doing demanding work, we strengthen their capacity to lead, support others and provide consistent, thoughtful care to children.
