CPD Behaviour, Boundaries & De-escalation
Understanding behaviour, preventing escalation and maintaining safe, consistent boundaries
Service Description
Accredited CPD | Live Online | 3 Hours | Up to 15 Participants Behaviour in residential childcare is rarely straightforward. Anger, refusal, confrontation, withdrawal and risk-taking can reflect distress, unmet needs or difficulties with emotional regulation. This specialist, CPD-accredited course helps practitioners understand what may be driving behaviour, recognise early warning signs and respond confidently without compromising safety or relationships. What will participants learn? Through realistic scenarios, discussion and reflection, participants will develop their ability to: - Understand behaviour as communication and recognise possible triggers, unmet needs and environmental influences. - Identify early signs of escalation and opportunities for preventative intervention. - Apply practical de-escalation approaches using appropriate language, tone, body language and timing. - Recognise how adult emotional regulation and responses can reduce or increase tension. - Establish clear, consistent boundaries without unnecessary confrontation or punitive responses. - Maintain professional boundaries while building positive, trusting relationships. - Reflect on incidents, repair relationships and identify opportunities to improve future practice. The course explores why de-escalation begins before a crisis, how power struggles develop and why safe boundaries and relational care must work together. How is the training delivered? This three-hour, live online session combines evidence-informed teaching, frontline residential childcare experience, realistic scenarios and professional discussion. Groups are limited to 15 participants to encourage meaningful engagement. Assessment and certification Attendance alone does not demonstrate learning. Following the session, each participant completes an individual Learning Validation & Reflection, assessed against the course learning outcomes before certification is issued. Where further learning is required, a complimentary 30-minute individual follow-up is provided before revalidation. Successful participants receive a certificate for this CPD-accredited course. Who is this course for? Residential childcare practitioners, seniors, team leaders, deputy managers, Registered Managers and professionals supporting children's residential services. Learning you can evidence.
