CPD PACE & Relational Practice
Building trust, understanding behaviour and strengthening relationships through PACE
Service Description
Accredited CPD | Live Online | 3 Hours | Up to 15 Participants Relationships are at the heart of effective residential childcare. But building trust with children who have experienced trauma, rejection or disrupted attachments requires more than good intentions. This specialist, CPD-accredited course explores PACE: Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy, and how these principles support safer, stronger relationships with children and young people in residential care. What will participants learn? Through realistic scenarios, guided discussion and reflective activities, participants will develop their ability to: - Explain the four principles of PACE and their relevance to residential childcare. - Understand how trauma, attachment experiences and emotional insecurity can influence behaviour and relationships. - Use playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy appropriately in everyday interactions. - Recognise the difference between accepting a child's feelings and accepting unsafe behaviour. - Respond to distress, resistance and challenging situations using relational approaches. - Reflect on their own communication, emotional responses and professional practice. The course explores how practitioners can remain curious rather than judgemental, recognise the needs beneath behaviour and maintain safe, consistent boundaries while building trust. How is the training delivered? Delivered live online by an experienced residential childcare practitioner, this three-hour session combines evidence-informed teaching, frontline experience, interactive scenarios and professional discussion. Groups are limited to 15 participants to encourage meaningful engagement. Assessment and certification Attendance alone does not demonstrate learning. Following the session, each participant completes an individual Learning Validation & Reflection, assessed against the course learning outcomes before certification is issued. Where further learning is required, a complimentary 30-minute individual follow-up is provided before revalidation. Successful participants receive a certificate for this CPD-accredited course, confirming that the required learning and assessment standards have been met. Who is this course for? Residential childcare practitioners, senior staff, team leaders, deputy managers, Registered Managers and professionals supporting children's residential services. Learning you can evidence.
